Mechanical Engineer – Certification & Verification (Uganda)

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to lead certification and verification activities for mechanical engineering projects in Uganda. The role involves on‑site inspections, audits, and ensuring compliance with engineering specifications, standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft verification and certification activity reports, define scope of work and budgets for mechanical projects.
• Perform site surveillance to certify and verify installation and testing of pipelines, pumps, compressors, valves and storage tanks.
• Verify that mechanical components meet engineering specifications, regulatory, safety and industry standards (BS EN, ISO).
• Lead audit activities, conduct opening and closing meetings with QC managers and stakeholders.
• Document audit results, non‑conformities and corrective actions; prepare detailed inspection reports after each visit.
• Review mechanical installation plans, design specifications and compliance documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of mechanical engineering experience, including at least 3 years on international projects as a main inspector.
• ISO 9712 Level 2 certification (UT, MT, PT, RT) – mandatory.
• Proficiency in pipeline design principles, API and ASME codes, hydraulic calculations and hydro‑testing.
• Knowledge of NDT methods for pipeline integrity and experience with pumps, valves and heating systems.
• Ability to witness material receipt and verify fabrication quality.
• Strong health and physical capability for on‑site inspections.
