Non-Life Technical Officer (Insurance Sector)

About the role

The Uganda Insurers Association is seeking a Non‑Life Technical Officer to lead the development and promotion of non‑life (property & casualty) insurance in Uganda. Reporting to the CEO, the role combines technical analysis, regulatory advocacy and sector‑wide coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Review, study and evaluate non‑life insurance business, propose technological advancements and legislative improvements.
• Serve as Secretary to the Non‑life Technical Committee, guide priorities, compile business cases and liaise with the Insurance Regulatory Authority.
• Support the Association’s 2024‑2028 strategic plan, handle all technical matters, collect and disseminate market data, and coordinate training and public awareness projects.
• Maintain the Association’s website updates, prepare annual activity reports and assist with any other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• At least five years of experience in underwriting or claims within a reputable non‑life insurance company or brokerage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Economics or Quantitative Economics; a Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Insurance is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of industry regulations, legislative changes and non‑life insurance products.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of SPSS and qualitative data analysis software.
