Plastic Surgeon – Emergency Response Team

About the role

International Medical Corps seeks a board‑certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon to join its Emergency Response Team (ERT) in Kamwokya, Uganda. You will deliver life‑saving and function‑restoring surgical care in conflict‑affected, disaster‑prone, or low‑resource environments.

Key responsibilities

• Perform emergency and elective reconstructive procedures, including trauma reconstruction, burn excision and coverage, infection control, and complex wound management.
• Apply damage‑control and staged reconstruction principles for unstable patients with limited resources.
• Manage peri‑operative and post‑operative care with a focus on infection prevention and complication mitigation.
• Participate in triage and prioritization during mass‑casualty or surge events.
• Train, mentor, and supervise local surgeons, residents, nurses, and allied staff.
• Develop locally appropriate surgical protocols and clinical guidelines.
• Collaborate with anesthesia, nursing, rehabilitation, logistics, and leadership teams, adapting plans to available infrastructure and supplies.
• Maintain accurate, ethical clinical documentation and uphold humanitarian principles.

Required profile

• Board‑certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon.
• Demonstrated experience in trauma, burns, infection, and soft‑tissue reconstruction.
• Proven ability to teach and mentor across cultures and training levels.
• High adaptability, resilience, and collaborative mindset.
