Postdoctoral Fellow – Biomass Research

About the role

The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is hiring postdoctoral fellows to lead biomass research in Kampala, Uganda. The role involves providing scientific guidance, managing collaborative natural‑resource projects, and producing high‑quality research outputs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide scientific guidance ensuring research concepts and methods meet the highest standards.
• Collaborate with theme coordinators and CIFOR teams to define and implement emerging research activities.
• Write, supervise, and publish scientific communications.
• Lead and supervise project capacity‑building initiatives and mentor junior scientists.
• Represent CIFOR in national, regional, and global forums on forest governance.
• Develop and maintain constructive partnerships with stakeholders.
• Identify and secure additional research funding and manage project budgets.
• Plan, monitor, and report on research activities, including donor reporting.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline with a strong record of peer‑reviewed publications.
• Experience in collaborative natural‑resource management or social‑science research, including multi‑partner fieldwork in developing countries.
• Proven ability to develop and manage project budgets and secure donor funding.
• Fluent spoken and written English; additional language skills are an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience working in multicultural, multidisciplinary research teams.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to knowledge sharing.
