MEL Specialist (Fixed-Term)

About the role

As the MEL Project Specialist you will report to the Global MEL Manager, design and implement study designs, and oversee data collection, cleaning and analysis using tools such as CommCare, Google Sheets, STATA and R. You will also manage department staff, track project progress and oversee expenditures.

Key responsibilities

• Draft study designs, evaluation strategies and implementation plans.
• Clean and analyze data using STATA or R, develop analysis plans and produce summary statistics and regressions.
• Select survey participants, calculate sample sizes and prepare respondent lists.
• Manage project dashboards, track task progress and provide oversight to junior staff.
• Produce survey reports with findings and actionable recommendations.
• Represent the MEL department in Uganda program meetings and global impact discussions.
• Supervise direct reports, create development plans and conduct performance evaluations.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, data analysis or program evaluation.
• Experience managing medium‑to‑high complexity projects and small to medium teams.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis with STATA or R and advanced Excel functions.
• Ability to design study plans, questionnaires, calculate sample sizes and produce high‑quality reports.
• Experience in budget tracking, expenditure reporting and asset management.
