Program Director – Uganda

About the role

GiveDirectly is seeking a senior leader to oversee all Uganda programs, ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget, and meet impact targets. The role reports to the Country Director and serves as the deputy when needed, combining field‑level problem solving with high‑level stakeholder management.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day delivery of multi‑million‑dollar programs, maintaining quality, efficiency and impact benchmarks.
• Build and maintain operational systems, risk trackers and compliance protocols across a growing portfolio.
• Partner with senior managers to translate funding opportunities into viable delivery plans, including timelines, resources and risk assessments.
• Integrate product, evidence and research initiatives into program design while preserving scalability.
• Manage senior staff, nurture talent, and support a values‑driven culture.
• Oversee procurement and operational functions to ensure smooth execution.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in non‑profit country management, program leadership or comparable senior roles.
• Proven track record of direct‑delivery program leadership at scale, with strong financial and risk judgment.
• Excellent stakeholder management and ability to represent the organization at senior levels.
• Deep understanding of cash transfer and poverty‑reduction programs.
• High autonomy, analytical problem‑solving mindset and resilience.

What we offer

• Base salary of $99,100 per year.
• Target performance bonus of approximately 15% of base salary.
• Annual benefits stipend of $8,453.
