Protection Coordinator – Kampala, Uganda

About the role

The Norwegian Refugee Council is seeking a senior Protection Coordinator to lead and strengthen protection programming in Kampala, Uganda. The role provides technical guidance, training and oversight to ensure that protection activities meet NRC standards and humanitarian best‑practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support and mentorship to protection staff, developing and delivering training on protection standards.
• Assist the ICLA/Protection Technical Specialist in shaping and improving NRC’s Protection Core Competency strategy, tools and guidance.
• Oversee quality assurance for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of protection programmes, ensuring alignment with NRC policies and humanitarian standards.
• Lead protection monitoring, risk analysis and evidence generation to inform programme adaptation, advocacy and strategic decisions.
• Promote protection mainstreaming across all NRC programmes and develop methodologies, tools, SOPs and quality standards.
• Represent NRC in coordination mechanisms, technical working groups and external forums, fostering inter‑agency collaboration.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and community organisations.
• Contribute technical inputs to programme design, budgeting, donor reporting, assessments and resource mobilisation.
• Ensure compliance with safeguarding, PSEA, donor and legal requirements.

Required profile

• Senior‑level professional with at least five years of experience in protection programming within humanitarian settings.
• Proven ability to provide technical guidance, coaching and capacity‑building to multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong knowledge of protection standards, humanitarian principles and relevant legal frameworks.
• Experience in monitoring, risk analysis and evidence‑based programme adaptation.
• Excellent stakeholder management and representation skills.
