Regional Agriculture Officer – Mbale District

About the role

The Regional Agriculture Officer will lead and coordinate agriculture extension activities—including cropping and livestock—across multiple districts in the region, following Raising The Village’s core methodology. The role focuses on training, capacity‑building and ensuring technical soundness of interventions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and coordination for agriculture extension work across districts.
• Organize and deliver harmonisation trainings for Government Extension Officers through Master Trainers.
• Build the capacity of RTV implementation staff and run virtual trainings on the full agriculture methodology.
• Collaborate with the Venn team, procurement, program staff and local authorities to assess needs and manage input/seed contracts.
• Support the design of regional adaptive clusters, introduce relevant agricultural innovations and oversee pilot projects.
• Maintain and supervise demonstration gardens that serve as reference models for the region.

Required profile

• University degree in Agriculture (crop and animal husbandry, agribusiness, etc.); postgraduate diploma is a plus.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in agricultural programming, including coordination or training across multiple sites.
• Experience in community development and familiarity with organic pesticide, soil, crop and pest management.
• Strong facilitation ability to convey scientific information to audiences with varying literacy levels.
• Fluency in English and local languages, and willingness to travel up to 80 % of the time.

• Soil management and crop‑pest management techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
