Registered Nurse - PreOp/PACU - PRN

About the role

The Registered Nurse – PreOp/PACU (PRN) provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing same‑day surgery. Working under the direction of the Director of Nursing, the RN ensures safe pre‑operative preparation, monitors patients in the post‑anesthesia care unit, and supports discharge according to facility policies.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in delivering nursing care to patients in a same‑day surgery setting.
• Assume total responsibility for patient care based on physician orders and center policies.
• Monitor and control the use of supplies, ensuring accurate charging.
• Assess, develop, and implement nursing care plans for post‑operative patients.
• Record and report symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient conditions.
• Administer medications and treatments ordered by physicians, documenting all actions.
• Provide psychological support to patients and families.
• Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Coordinate with physicians and external departments (e.g., radiology) for patient care.
• Admit patients to the sit‑up area and manage routine charging of medications and supplies.
• Function independently in emergencies, making quick, sound decisions.
• Assist in orientation and act as a resource for new employees.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
• Current Registered Nurse license.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Experience in a pre‑operative or PACU setting is a plus.
• Commitment to continuing education and meeting CEU re‑licensure requirements.

Required skills

• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
