About the role

The Senior Digital Content Producer will lead the creation of high‑quality, video‑focused journalism for BBC World Service’s new Regional Journalism team in East Africa. Working from Kampala, you will shape stories that resonate with younger, digitally native audiences across mobile and social platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Drive originality in video storytelling by identifying under‑reported stories, emerging trends and fresh angles.
• Support coverage of major news and special events, staying agile to breaking developments.
• Exercise strong editorial independence, deciding story direction and prioritisation with minimal supervision.
• Anticipate platform needs during production, capturing multiple formats and shot variations for reuse.
• Contribute to format innovation, testing new video styles and audience‑engagement techniques.
• Apply risk awareness in sensitive environments and when working with vulnerable contributors.
• Maintain consistent tone and quality across all outputs, upholding BBC values.
• Champion efficient field and edit workflows to maximise output without compromising quality.
• Represent the BBC professionally with contributors, partners and audiences.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in digital‑first video journalism.
• Proven ability to work independently and make editorial decisions.
• Strong understanding of mobile and social media audiences.
