Senior Finance Officer

About the role

The Senior Finance Officer supports the Head of Finance and Administration in overseeing the finance function for HEKS/EPER’s operations in Uganda and South Sudan. The role ensures day‑to‑day financial operations, treasury management, statutory compliance and accurate reporting across all programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the Country Office financial system in line with HEKS/EPER policies and the Field Financial and Administration Guidelines.
• Coordinate daily finance operations, including payment review, voucher completeness, coding accuracy, cash and bank controls, petty cash and working advances.
• Prepare, check and consolidate monthly and quarterly financial information for senior review and HQ submission.
• Support budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting, burn‑rate analysis and financial forecasts for annual, project and programme budgets.
• Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory obligations such as PAYE, NSSF, WHT and URA requirements.
• Coordinate audit schedules, support donor and statutory audits, and follow up on audit findings.
• Provide technical supervision to field‑based Finance & Administration staff, setting deliverables, reviewing outputs and coaching as needed.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce or related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.
• Professional accounting qualification or active progression toward ACCA, CPA or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years of senior finance experience, preferably in an international NGO or NPO.
• Proven ability in budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting, treasury management, financial analysis and audit coordination.
• Strong knowledge of national and international accounting standards and donor financial requirements.
