Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical and plumbing quality assurance for a 24‑month construction project in Kampala, Uganda. The role reports to the project manager and provides technical oversight of all mechanical works, ensuring compliance with design and contract specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct on‑site inspections of mechanical and plumbing installations, including HVAC, boilers, pumps, valves, chillers, air‑handling and refrigeration equipment.
• Monitor the contractor’s quality‑control and safety programmes, verify that materials and workmanship meet contract requirements.
• Review and approve engineering shop drawings, submittals and design calculations for compliance with project specifications.
• Interpret construction drawings and design narratives, identify coordination issues with other disciplines, and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare weekly progress reports, highlighting technical findings and schedule impacts.
• Support commissioning activities and ensure proper integration of fire‑protection systems.

Required profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree from an accredited university.
• Minimum 7 years (84 months) of experience in large‑scale building construction, focusing on mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Proven experience with HVAC, water supply, drainage, fire‑protection, and related mechanical equipment.
• Strong knowledge of construction QA/QC processes and ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
