Senior Software Developer – DART Project (Uganda)

About the role

The Senior Software Developer will support the Ministry of Health (MOH) in enhancing, customizing, testing, and maintaining national digital health products under the Data‑Activated Architecture for Resilient Transition (DART) project. Based in Kampala, the role involves improving system usability, reliability, performance, security, and interoperability while travelling nationally as required.

Key responsibilities

• Enhance and customize eAfya/UgandaEMR, iHRIS, eCHIS and partner‑built modules.
• Conduct testing, quality assurance and ongoing maintenance of digital health applications.
• Work within MOH‑controlled repositories and release processes to ensure secure and reliable deployments.
• Optimize system performance, security and interoperability across health information exchanges.
• Support data‑center design, cybersecurity initiatives and health information exchange operations.
• Provide technical guidance and capacity building for MOH teams.
• Travel to regional sites for implementation support and stakeholder coordination.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level software development experience.
• Experience with digital health information systems and government‑controlled release cycles.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Current work authorization in Uganda.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Required skills

• Experience with eAfya/UgandaEMR.
• Familiarity with iHRIS.
• Familiarity with eCHIS.
• Knowledge of software testing, maintenance best practices, and security standards.
• Understanding of system interoperability concepts.
