About the role

The Sounding and Security Watch supports a critical US Navy program on Diego Garcia, ensuring the safety and security of Navy‑owned floating assets at the Small Boat Basin and Deep Draft Wharf. The role operates during night‑time watch hours, providing continuous monitoring, lighting control, and sounding activities.

Key responsibilities

• Secure and monitor all Navy‑owned floating assets in the Small Boat Basin, maintaining accurate logs of observations.
• Conduct routine soundings, check mooring lines, dock conditions, and water levels to detect hazards.
• Operate pier lighting, turning lights on at sunset and off at sunrise.
• Report any irregularities, security concerns, or safety hazards to the appropriate authorities promptly.
• Maintain vigilance during the daily watch schedule from 1600 to 0700, deterring unauthorized activity.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of experience in security, marine operations, or watchstanding.
• Basic knowledge of marine floating assets, mooring practices, and security protocols.
• Ability to work independently during overnight shifts.
• Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
