Sr. Manager - Learning & Development (Head of L&D)

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing agritech company based in Uganda, is seeking a Senior Manager – Learning & Development to design and lead the L&D function from the ground up. This strategic, hands‑on role will shape how a multi‑country, multi‑cultural workforce learns, develops and performs.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and lead the L&D function end‑to‑end, including strategy, structure, systems, and governance.
• Design and implement onboarding, leadership development, technical/functional training, and career development programs for a multi‑country, multi‑cultural workforce.
• Partner with business heads and HR leadership to identify skill gaps and build role‑specific capability roadmaps.
• Build and manage a scalable LMS/learning infrastructure and oversee vendor and facilitator networks across regions.
• Develop metrics and reporting frameworks to measure training effectiveness and business impact.
• Lead, mentor, and eventually expand a team of L&D professionals as the function scales.
• Drive a culture of continuous learning across field and corporate teams in Tanzania and other operating geographies.

Required profile

• 8+ years of progressive L&D experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership or head‑of‑function capacity.
• Proven experience setting up or scaling an L&D function from an early stage, ideally in agritech, agriculture, FMCG, or a similar operations‑heavy sector.
• Strong instructional design, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working across diverse geographies and cultures.
• Willingness to be based in Tanzania and travel across the region as needed.
