WASH Assistant – Nyakabande Transit Center

About the role

IsraAID is seeking a dedicated WASH Assistant to support water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities at the Nyakabande Transit Centre in Kisoro, Uganda. Working under the Senior WASH Officer, you will help deliver safe drinking water, improved sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion for displaced persons and host communities.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure access to clean and safe water for the transit centre, refugee and host communities.
• Apply behavior‑change communication (BCC) approaches to raise awareness of best WASH practices.
• Assess WASH priorities and needs of persons of concern and develop appropriate response strategies.
• Lead sanitation campaigns, including latrine construction, desludging, wastewater and drainage management.
• Support initiatives to end open defecation and improve overall sanitation conditions.
• Collaborate with community members, institutions and other stakeholders to monitor and evaluate WASH interventions.

Required profile

• Experience working in humanitarian or development settings, preferably with refugee or host communities.
• Ability to work under guidance, follow program targets and adhere to national and humanitarian standards.
• Strong communication skills and capacity to engage diverse community groups.

Required skills

• Behavior‑change communication (BCC) techniques for WASH promotion.
• Practical knowledge of latrine construction, desludging and basic wastewater management.
• Ability to conduct community needs assessments and prioritize interventions.
