Accountant (Logistics) – Kampala

About the role

A leading recruitment company in Nairobi, Kenya, is recruiting on behalf of its client, a logistics company with operations in the Middle East and a growing presence in East Africa. It is looking for a highly skilled, detail-oriented Accountant to oversee the full accounting function in Kampala, ensuring financial accuracy, strong internal controls and compliance with Ugandan statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including general ledger management, reconciliations and reporting.
• Manage freight and logistics accounting, including job costing, profitability analysis and revenue recognition across service lines.
• Review and validate supplier invoices and ensure accurate cost allocation and margin tracking.
• Ensure compliance with Ugandan tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, Corporate Tax) and statutory submissions (URA, NSSF).
• Lead budgeting and forecasting, including variance analysis and financial performance monitoring.
• Oversee cash flow management, banking relationships, receivables, payables and collections.
• Supervise accounting staff, optimise ERP systems and strengthen internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or ACCA finalist qualification preferred.
• 4-6 years of accounting experience, including at least 2-3 years in a senior role.
• Experience in logistics, freight forwarding or supply chain.
• Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and financial regulations.

Required skills

• ERP and accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle or QuickBooks.
• Strong understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards.
