Agronomist – Field‑Based Sustainable Agriculture

About the role

You will work directly with smallholder farmers in Uganda to promote regenerative, sustainable agricultural practices that improve soil health, increase yields, and support ecosystem restoration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation of agroforestry and regenerative agriculture systems.
• Assess soil, climate and vegetation to guide planting techniques and fertility management.
• Monitor seedling quality, field planting, and survival rates of forestry trees, cocoa and coffee.
• Conduct pest and disease surveillance for early detection and management.
• Collect, analyse and report field data on yields, soil health and survival rates.
• Train, mentor and support farmers and field staff in sustainable practices.
• Collaborate with project teams and local communities to align agroforestry interventions.

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension or related field.
• Field experience with smallholder or rural farmers, preferably in developing contexts.
• Strong communication, training and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, self‑reliant and comfortable working in remote, field‑based environments.
• Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one local language (Runyoro/Rutooro or Kiswahili).
