Associate Business Advisor

About the role

The Associate Business Advisor supports the Growing Resilience and Opportunities for Wealth Through Horticulture (GROWTH) project by strengthening marketing frameworks for horticultural off‑takers and empowering smallholder farmers, farmer organizations, and cooperatives across several Ugandan regions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver tailored training on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and "farming as a business" to horticulture farmers and groups.
• Provide customized training to fresh fruit and vegetable vendors and micro‑retailers on marketplace economics, supply‑chain management, and shop operations.
• Identify local competency gaps and feed feedback to project leadership to refine marketing curricula.
• Build commercial supply‑chain alliances by linking smallholder farmers with private‑sector off‑takers, supermarkets, processors, and exporters.
• Coach beneficiaries on logistics, cold‑chain practices, and storage solutions to reduce post‑harvest losses and secure consistent market pricing.
• Offer one‑on‑one business counseling and mentorship to micro, small, and medium enterprises within the horticulture value chain.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of horticulture markets and value‑chain dynamics in Uganda.
• Experience delivering capacity‑building and training programmes for farmers and market actors.
• Proven ability to facilitate market linkages and support business development for smallholder groups.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with partners such as Agriterra, PIP/EFFORT, and agronomy specialists.
