Credit Officer

About the role

Uzima Microfinance, a fast‑growing financial institution in Uganda, is looking for a proactive Credit Officer to support its mission of providing affordable financial services to communities in the Eastern Region. The role involves field‑based lending activities, client mobilisation, and loan portfolio management.

Key responsibilities

• Mobilise and recruit clients within assigned areas and market segments.
• Conduct field assessments, group formation, loan appraisal and verification of client information.
• Facilitate loan disbursement, monitor loan performance and carry out regular follow‑ups.
• Maintain accurate client files, loan documentation and repayment records.
• Ensure timely collection of loan installments while promoting a positive repayment culture.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships and promote Uzima’s products and services.
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly and monthly performance reports to the Branch Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum a degree in Business Administration, Microfinance, Accounting, Social Sciences, Education or a related field.
• Experience in field‑based microfinance lending is an advantage.
• Willingness to work and travel extensively in rural and peri‑urban communities.
• Strong communication, mobilisation and customer relationship management abilities.
• High level of integrity, discipline and results‑oriented work ethic.
• Ability to speak Ateso or Samia and English.
• All interviews will be conducted at Mbale regional offices.
