Data Manager / Programmer – Fixed‑term (12 months) in Mbarara, Uganda

About the role

The Data Manager / Programmer will join Epicentre’s Uganda Research Centre, supporting clinical and epidemiological studies across Africa. Reporting to the Data Management, IT and Compliance Coordinator, you will design, develop and maintain data management systems that meet ICH‑GCP and GDPR standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and automate scripts for quality control, data cleaning, validation queries and monitoring reports.
• Build and maintain import/export pipelines between REDCap, OpenClinica, mobile data collection tools and statistical software.
• Design electronic case report forms (eCRFs) and configure platforms such as REDCap, OpenClinica, ODK and CommCare.
• Create dashboards for data quality monitoring and KPI reporting using Power BI or similar tools.
• Support server configuration, backup, disaster recovery and troubleshoot technical issues.
• Document system validation, change control and ensure compliance with ICH‑GCP, GCDMP and GDPR.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Health Informatics or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of experience in software development, clinical data management or research informatics, preferably in resource‑limited settings.
• Proficiency in English (C1); French is an asset.
• Experience with clinical trials or epidemiological research projects.

Required skills

• Advanced REDCap configuration and API management.
• Strong R programming skills, including Shiny app development.
• Version control with Git.
• Python programming.
• SQL and relational database design.
• Experience with ODK/Kobo, CommCare, OpenClinica.
• GIS, DHIS2, Power BI for reporting.
• Linux administration and Docker.
