Senior Software Engineer

About the role

The National Robotics Engineering Center is seeking a dynamic Senior Software Engineer to develop software that powers advanced robotic systems. You will work alongside world‑class robotics professionals, contributing to both existing and upcoming projects across industrial, commercial, and government sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, document, test, troubleshoot and maintain core software applications and integrated systems for robotic platforms and supporting infrastructure.
• Drive high‑level software architecture, data pipelines and system requirements while balancing scalability with hardware constraints.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers, UI/UX developers, product leads and sponsors to translate operational needs into technical specifications.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Build and maintain development tools, CI/CD pipelines, logging/telemetry systems and real‑time communication protocols.

Required profile

• B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent with 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong mastery of modern C++ in a Linux environment and proven ability to create clean, maintainable system architectures.
• Proficiency in Python for rapid prototyping, data analysis and automation.
• Experience with network protocols, IPC, hardware driver integration and real‑time data streaming.
• Excellent technical communication and inclusive leadership skills.
