Data Science Instructor

About the role

TRAAC is looking for a Data Science Instructor to lead the Data Science track of the Interschool Coding Competition (ISCC) in Kampala. You will design and deliver training, create competition challenges, and mentor school teams from qualifiers through national finals.

Key responsibilities

• Design and record training sessions covering Python fundamentals, data cleaning, visualization, introductory machine learning and SQL.
• Create competition materials, including datasets, problem statements, judging rubrics and worked examples for qualifiers, regionals and finals.
• Mentor 3‑4 student teams per school throughout the competition cycle, collaborating with teachers and travelling to regional events and national finals.
• Contribute to curriculum design, assessment quality, teaching material libraries and the mentorship of junior instructors.
• Provide one‑on‑one code reviews, working sessions and ongoing support to ensure student success.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in data science, analytics or a related field.
• Strong command of Python and its data‑science ecosystem.
• Solid understanding of machine‑learning concepts and practical model evaluation.
• Excellent teaching or mentoring ability, with a passion for youth education.
