Experienced Structural Engineer

About the role

EMI Uganda is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join its design team in Kampala. The role combines professional engineering responsibilities with spiritual discipleship, supporting Christian ministries across East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural design, analysis and drafting for EMI projects.
• Review and consult on designs prepared by others.
• Supervise and mentor interns, fellows and junior engineers.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, design guides and tools.
• Coordinate project design and delivery, ensuring scope, quality and schedule.
• Provide construction administration support and respond to site queries.
• Participate in EMI’s spiritual discipleship programmes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a structural emphasis or related field.
• 8‑10+ years of relevant engineering experience, including project management.
• Professional licensure or registration preferred.
• Proven ability to mentor and supervise junior staff.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to relocate to Kampala and travel 1‑2 times per year.
