Finance Manager

About the role

SafeBoda, a Ugandan startup focused on making motorcycle taxis and cars safer and more affordable, is hiring a Finance Manager in Kampala. The role leads financial management and control across SafeBoda's operations, including ride-hailing activities, and covers Uganda and Kenya. It is full-time and on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close and prepare financial statements under frameworks such as IFRS, including Bank of Uganda returns for the licensed business
• Handle tax compliance (CIT, VAT, PAYE) and oversee Kenyan tax requirements, and coordinate internal and external audits
• Review daily cash and bank positions, maintain a 13-week cash flow forecast and control banking mandates, keeping customer and trust funds separate from operating cash
• Oversee recording of ride, delivery and payment revenues, reconcile transaction platforms to the general ledger and manage receivables
• Manage supplier onboarding, invoice verification, expense claims, payroll inputs and statutory deductions, and monitor spending against budget
• Monitor controls across revenue, purchasing, payments and reporting, investigate control failures, escalate suspected fraud and maintain segregation of duties
• Set objectives, coach staff and lead the finance operations team

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Statistics or another business-related discipline
• Fully qualified CPA or ACCA in good standing
• At least 5 years of finance experience, including financial reporting, internal controls, treasury, tax compliance and audit coordination
• Ability to supervise a lean team and work across entities
• Big Four audit/advisory experience, Kenya compliance exposure and fintech or high-volume transaction experience are an added advantage

Required skills

• Working knowledge of financial reporting standards, Uganda tax requirements and Bank of Uganda-regulated payments or fintech reporting
• Strong Excel skills and experience with Odoo or a comparable ERP system
