General Service Assistant (Part‑time)

About the role

The General Service Assistant will support the hospital’s non‑medical department by ensuring a clean, safe and orderly environment for patients, staff and visitors. This part‑time fixed‑term role is based at CURE Children’s Hospital in Mbale and reports to the General Service Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub and dust assigned areas, applying approved cleaning solutions and notifying users of wet floors.
• Collect, sort, wash, dry, press and fold hospital linen, following the prescribed jik‑water‑detergent ratio and handling heavily soiled items separately.
• Empty garbage bins, transport waste to the incinerator, disinfect used bins and ensure proper waste disposal.
• Apply disinfectants to contaminated surfaces and equipment, wear full protective gear and follow infection‑prevention protocols.
• Maintain cleaning equipment, disinfect mop heads and towels, store tools in a locked room, and report any hazards.
• Participate in departmental training, meetings and spiritual ministry programmes as required.

Required profile

• Certificate in Hotel Management or Institutional Catering preferred.
• Experience in kitchen, laundry or cleaning functions within a recognised hotel, guest house or hospital.
• Ability to follow infection‑control procedures and work with minimal supervision.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.
