Go Software Engineer - Developer Tooling and Containers

About the role

Canonical is hiring a Go (Golang) Software Engineer to build a new open-source developer experience tool. The tool aims to rethink typical developer workflows so people can work better in immutable distro environments and with remote cloud resources, while preserving what people love about traditional Linux. It integrates deeply with Ubuntu desktop, modern IDEs and SDKs from publishers such as NVIDIA, Intel and AMD, and seeks to free developers from tedious environment setup across domains such as robotics, MLOps and IoT. The role is remote within APAC time zones.

Key responsibilities

• Design the user experience of new capabilities in the tool
• Write high-quality code to create new features
• Focus on correctness and robustness across diverse use cases
• Ensure the software solves a well-defined problem
• Plan implementation strategy with performance, quality and security in mind
• Work with teams inside and outside Canonical

Required profile

• Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C or C++
• Knowledge of Linux system-level fundamentals, such as cgroups and namespaces
• Curious, thoughtful, articulate and accountable
• Strong academic record from high school and university, with an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative path
• Confident in giving respectful feedback and sharing ideas
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events, up to two weeks long
