Laboratory Technician

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will work for Aspen Medical in support of the United Nations Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The role involves performing a wide range of laboratory tests and procedures to provide accurate, timely diagnostic results for patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct all laboratory testing in line with UNSOS protocols, international standards and local regulations.
• Maintain precise records of specimen collection, processing and result reporting.
• Participate in audits, quality control and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Follow standard operating procedures for safe handling of biological materials and chemicals.
• Ensure proper storage of specimens, reagents and chemicals and maintain laboratory cleanliness.
• Monitor equipment performance, perform routine maintenance and coordinate repairs.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to optimise workflow and reduce turnaround times.

• Ability to follow SOPs, manage risk and contribute to quality improvement.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in test performance and documentation.
• Willingness to stay updated on laboratory best practices and emerging technologies.
