Mechanical Engineer – Uganda

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join Bureau Veritas in Uganda. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise for inspection, testing and certification of mechanical systems, travelling to client sites across the country to ensure safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct in‑service and pre‑service inspections of pressure vessels, piping systems and mechanical equipment according to API, ASME and ISO standards.
• Prepare detailed inspection reports documenting findings, non‑conformances and recommendations.
• Verify equipment compliance with codes such as API 653, API 570 and issue certification documentation.
• Communicate technical results to clients, respond to inquiries and provide expert guidance.
• Maintain inspection records and ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas quality management procedures.
• Supervise on‑site inspection activities, coordinate with contractors and internal teams.
• Conduct site risk assessments, implement safety controls and promote HSE compliance.
• Stay up‑to‑date with evolving international standards (API, ASME, ISO 9712) and apply them consistently.
• Mentor junior engineers and inspection technicians.
• Support quotation preparation, bid responses and promote a strong safety culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant certifications such as API 570, API 653, ISO 9712, CSWIP 3.1 or CSWIP 3.2.2; LEEA is a plus.
• Proven experience in mechanical inspection, testing or certification of pressure vessels and piping systems.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple inspection projects.
