Senior Agronomist – Barley Yield & Quality Lead

About the role
We are looking for a Senior Agronomist to lead barley research and development trials and translate findings into scalable farmer practices across Uganda. The role combines R&D leadership, extension activities and seasonal production planning to drive yield, quality and sustainability.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and execute barley variety trials, demo plots and protocol development.
- Generate insights, codify best practices and create farmer training content.
- Partner with zone research specialists, global barley innovation team and third‑party partners on variety development.
- Identify agronomic constraints, implement interventions and monitor crop performance to improve yield, quality and cost per ton.
- Deliver technical training, field visits and coaching to lead farmers and ensure compliance with agronomy protocols.
- Execute regional production plans including seed and input distribution, planting alignment, crop monitoring and pre‑harvest forecasting.
- Capture high‑quality data for production and sustainability reporting (e.g., SCFE 2030) and flag risks early.
- Manage relationships with aggregators, agents, community leaders and oversee third‑party resources against service level agreements.
Required profile
- Minimum two years of agronomy experience, preferably in barley or cereal crops.
- Demonstrated ability to lead R&D trials and translate results into farmer‑focused recommendations.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in crop performance tracking and in‑season mitigation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Willingness to work on‑site in Uganda and travel to farmer fields as needed.
