Ophthalmic Clinical Officer

About the role

The Ophthalmic Clinical Officer will provide comprehensive eye care services within Henrob Hospital. Working closely with ophthalmologists and the wider health team, the officer will ensure accurate diagnosis, treatment and patient education for a range of ocular conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough eye examinations and visual acuity tests.
• Diagnose common eye conditions such as refractive errors, conjunctivitis, cataracts, glaucoma and other ocular diseases.
• Prescribe and dispense corrective lenses, medications and other treatment modalities.
• Assist in minor ophthalmic procedures and surgeries under supervision.
• Educate patients on eye health, hygiene and preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare team members to develop treatment plans.
• Participate in outreach programs and community eye‑health initiatives.
• Adhere to clinical protocols, ethical standards and health‑safety regulations.

Required profile

• Diploma in Clinical Ophthalmology from a recognised and accredited institution.
• Additional training in ophthalmic care or related eye‑health services is an advantage.
• Minimum of 4 years (48 months) relevant experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in conducting eye examinations and visual acuity testing.
• Ability to diagnose and manage common ocular diseases.
• Experience prescribing corrective lenses and ophthalmic medications.
• Familiarity with ophthalmic equipment and its maintenance.
• Strong patient education and communication skills.
