Patient Financial Services Specialist

About the role

The Patient Financial Services Specialist will act as the primary liaison between patients, insurers, and our behavioral health clients, ensuring accurate billing and a positive financial experience. This role combines customer service excellence with deep knowledge of revenue cycle processes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to patients regarding insurance coverage, billing statements, payment plans, and financial assistance.
• Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information in billing systems or EHR platforms.
• Calculate and communicate patient financial responsibilities, including co‑pays, deductibles, and co‑insurance.
• Assist patients in understanding EOBs, billing statements, and payment options.
• Collaborate with insurers to resolve claim issues and ensure timely processing.
• Review accounts for outstanding balances, follow up on overdue payments, and arrange payment plans.
• Educate patients on financial assistance programs and eligibility.
• Maintain thorough documentation of interactions, agreements, and payment arrangements.
• Work with internal teams to resolve complex billing inquiries and escalate when necessary.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Proficiency with medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) platforms, and patient accounting systems.
• Strong knowledge of behavioral health coding and billing guidelines (CPT, HCPCS, ICD‑10).
• Familiarity with insurance payer billing requirements.
