Pharmacy Technician - Laboratory Support

About the role

Makerere University is recruiting a Technician for its Department of Pharmacy in Kampala, reporting to the Head of Department. The role supports laboratory operations by helping set up, review and maintain standard operating procedures, and by teaching and supervising practicals in microbiology, biotechnology, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical analysis.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in formulating, reviewing and maintaining standard operating procedures for the workplace laboratories.
• Set up, demonstrate, teach, guide and assess practicals in microbiology, biotechnology, pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical analysis.
• Manage inventory of consumables and equipment used in practicals.
• Carry out market surveys for laboratory consumables and equipment.
• Assess the quality of procured laboratory consumables and equipment.
• Keep the pharmacy laboratories tidy and ensure the care and proper functioning of the laboratories and their equipment.

Required profile

• Honours Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Technology (Microbiology, Biology or Biotechnology), or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Age limit: applicants must not exceed 55 years at the time of application.

The appointment is on a 4-year contract.
