Procurement Officer

About the role

The Department of Operational Support in the United Nations seeks a senior Procurement Officer to lead complex procurement activities for peace‑keeping and other UN programmes. Based in Entebbe, Uganda, the role reports to the Chief of the Global Procurement Support Section and contributes to the UN’s supply‑chain strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead worldwide procurement of a wide range of supplies and services, including highly technical and legally complex contracts.
• Provide technical advice to substantive units throughout all phases of the procurement cycle.
• Analyze procurement requests, ensure appropriate technical specifications, and develop complex contracts for non‑routine and advanced commodities.
• Issue international tenders, evaluate responses, and recommend contract awards; sign orders within authorized limits.
• Develop tactical contract approaches and market‑research‑based methods.
• Contribute to UN category‑management strategy, institutional procurement policies, and evaluation standards.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in international procurement and contract management, preferably within UN or large peace‑keeping programmes.
• Strong knowledge of procurement regulations, competitive and transparent processes, and best‑value principles.
• Ability to assess supplier capacity, production patterns, and market conditions.
• Proven capability to draft and negotiate complex contracts and to provide expert advice to senior officials.
