Project Officer – Agribusiness & Market Systems

About the role

The Project Officer – Agribusiness & Market Systems will lead the implementation, monitoring and reporting of agribusiness and market‑system activities under the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project (UCSATP). The role supports smallholder farmers, farmer groups and private‑sector partners to build climate‑resilient, market‑oriented value chains.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and track agribusiness and market‑system interventions across selected districts.
• Provide training, coaching and technical assistance on business planning, post‑harvest handling and collective marketing.
• Facilitate linkages between farmer groups, buyers, financial institutions and off‑takers.
• Monitor project performance, collect data and prepare regular reports for donors and management.
• Support the development of farmer groups, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) and SACCOs.
• Contribute to the design and promotion of climate‑smart practices that improve yields and income.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary education in agriculture, agribusiness, economics or a related field.
• Minimum three years of experience in agribusiness development, market systems or value‑chain projects.
• Demonstrated experience working with smallholder farmers and farmer organisations.
• Strong understanding of climate‑smart agriculture and market‑linkage mechanisms.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with fluency in English.
