Protection Assistant – Community Based

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Protection Assistant to strengthen community‑based protection for forcibly displaced and stateless persons in Uganda. The role supports protection help desks, links communities with services, and ensures timely, accurate information reaches persons of concern.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate protection help desks, register complaints and provide appropriate responses.
• Build and maintain linkages between community members, partners, and service providers to improve access.
• Mobilise and disseminate protection information, enabling communities to take precautionary actions.
• Identify protection gaps, propose impactful solutions and support community‑based structures (RWC, CBVs, NHW).
• Participate in profiling, risk assessment and analysis for Protection Service Networks (PSNs).
• Collect, analyse and store protection data following Information Management principles.
• Implement daily community‑based activities according to work plans and monitor protection trends.
• Ensure all projects adhere to IRC standards, DRC guidelines and accountability principles.

Required profile

• Experience working with community‑based protection structures and displaced populations.
• Ability to facilitate community consultations and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of protection information management and data quality standards.
• Commitment to humanitarian principles and to delivering high‑quality protection outcomes.
