Regional Technical Advisor – Education (PlayMatters)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Regional Technical Advisor for Education to lead the PlayMatters (PM) Phase 3 initiative across Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan. This four‑year program (2026‑2030) aims to improve holistic learning outcomes for pre‑primary and primary children affected by conflict through active, play‑based teaching.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the adaptation, development, testing and improvement of teacher‑focused active learning content.
• Coordinate with global, regional and country‑based technical teams and partners to ensure alignment with PlayMatters objectives.
• Lead ongoing content review, analysis and adaptation processes to meet local curriculum standards.
• Support capacity‑building activities for teachers and education stakeholders in refugee‑hosting and post‑crisis zones.
• Monitor and evaluate the implementation of Learning through Play (LtP) approaches.

Required profile

• Significant experience in education programming within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to work across multiple countries and with diverse partners.
• Strong analytical and curriculum‑development skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.

Required skills

• Curriculum design and adaptation for early childhood and primary education.
• Knowledge of play‑based learning methodologies.
• Experience with monitoring and evaluation of education interventions.
