Senior Lecturer (Molecular Biology) - Full Time

About the role

Uganda Christian University is hiring a full-time Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology based in Kampala (Kamwokya). The role involves teaching the medical school curriculum, supervising students and carrying out research in molecular biology or a related field.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in course administration and instruction for the medical school curriculum, blending basic science and clinical concepts with colleagues from other disciplines.
• Use varied teaching methods such as case-based instruction, group discussions, lectures, demonstrations, simulations, team-based learning and distance education.
• Assess medical students' performance and give them individual support, feedback and advice.
• Work with course and curriculum committees, fellow faculty and administrators on curriculum goals.
• Engage in scholarship and academically related public service, and publish original material such as reviews, case studies and research results.
• Supervise student molecular biology sessions, treatment plans and competences, and act as clinical academic advisor and undergraduate portfolio supervisor when asked by the Head of Department.
• Carry out research in molecular biology or a related field and support internal and external research by attending and presenting at meetings.

Required profile

• PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from a recognised institution.
• Masters in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from a recognised institution.
• Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Laboratory Technology from a recognised institution; a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery is an added advantage.
• Completed specialist training in molecular biology or biotechnology and willing to grow over the next five years.
• At least three years of university-level teaching at the rank of Lecturer.
• Published at least two scholarly articles in internationally recognised journals.
• Registered or eligible for full registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
• Commitment to medical research, high integrity and a committed, practicing Christian.
