Swahili Linguist & Transcriber – Remote (DRC)

About the role

We are seeking native Swahili speakers from the Democratic Republic of Congo to join our global pool of linguists. As a remote independent contractor you will work on real audio recordings, creating verbatim transcripts and translating them into natural English to support advanced speech‑to‑text and translation technology.

Key responsibilities

• Produce verbatim transcripts from audio recordings, capturing noises, cross‑talk and other non‑verbal cues while following annotation guidelines.
• Translate the transcribed content into fluent English, preserving meaning, tone and cultural nuance.
• Review and correct transcripts or translations for accuracy and completeness when required.
• Optionally perform both transcription and translation within the same workflow.

Required profile

• Native‑level proficiency in Swahili (DRC).
• Graduate degree in translation, linguistics, language studies, or a degree in another field with at least two years of professional translation experience (or five years of full‑time translation experience).
• Prior experience with spoken‑language transcription is a strong advantage.
