Temporary Accountant

About the role

The Temporary Accountant will support Save The Children’s Western regional offices in Uganda by handling cash‑related tasks, processing payments, and maintaining financial records. Working under the supervision of the Senior Accountant, the role ensures smooth daily financial operations and contributes to audit readiness.

Key responsibilities

• Manage cash deposits, petty cash, and mobile‑money wallet balances, ensuring sufficient funds for operations.
• Upload verified payment requests, initiate bank and mobile‑money transactions, and provide payment proofs to requestors.
• Support staff in using the payment system, troubleshoot issues, and train regional users.
• Prepare and submit petty‑cash and bank top‑up requests with reconciled balances and supporting documents.
• Maintain physical security of cash, cheques, and payment instruments according to internal controls.
• Assist with document retrieval for audits, register journals, and process advance payments to staff.
• Provide ad‑hoc support during emergencies and other finance‑related tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Basic understanding of cash management, banking procedures, and mobile‑money platforms.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow established policies and guidelines.
• Good organizational skills to keep filing systems and financial records orderly.
• Ability to work under supervision and collaborate with regional teams.
