About the role
The Value Chain Manager will provide technical leadership for the GREEN Project’s five priority non‑timber forest product (NTFP) value chains – bamboo, honey/apiculture, shea, cashew and wild mango. Reporting to the Project Coordinator, the role oversees a pool of NTFP Value Chain consultants and ensures that technical assistance to producer groups, enterprises and partners is market‑led, commercially sound and environmentally sustainable.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise NTFP Value Chain consultants, defining scopes of work, monitoring deliverables and ensuring high‑quality technical support.
- Provide end‑to‑end technical guidance across production, sustainable harvesting, post‑harvest handling, processing, quality assurance, packaging, certification and market linkage.
- Develop and manage the technical work plan, sequencing assessments, field services, cottage‑industry support, incubation and acceleration activities.
- Maintain a structured mechanism for receiving, prioritising and assigning technical assistance requests from NTFP actors.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Forestry, Natural Resource Management or related field, plus a postgraduate qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in agricultural/forestry or NTFP value‑chain development in Uganda, with at least 2 years in a managerial or external‑engagement role.
- Direct technical experience in at least one of the project’s priority value chains and strong knowledge of the others.
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary consultants, develop scopes of work and ensure quality of deliverables.
- Familiarity with Ugandan regulatory and quality systems (UNBS) and certification processes.
Required skills
- Technical expertise in NTFP production, post‑harvest processing and value‑addition technologies.
- Knowledge of quality‑assurance standards, certification procedures and food/product safety requirements.
- Market‑system analysis, buyer requirement assessment and value‑chain linkage development.
- Assessment and specification of processing equipment, including installation, commissioning and operator training.
