Air Operations Officer

About the role

The Air Operations Officer will support the Forward Support and Deployment Hub within the Logistics Division of the Department of Operational Support in Entebbe, Uganda. The role involves managing airfield projects, planning infrastructure, and overseeing air transport support for United Nations missions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and administer support activities related to airfield projects and equipment.
• Plan, review and develop airfield infrastructure in coordination with missions and UN Headquarters, covering Management Service Agreements, Air Traffic Management/Communication Navigation Systems, and Aviation Ground Support Equipment.
• Assist in overseeing airfield development and rehabilitation projects in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
• Provide training for staff on airfield and ground handling, pallet loading, helicopter under‑slung loads, cargo handling, airport fire vehicles, and aviation ground support equipment.
• Lead, supervise, mentor and evaluate staff, designing training initiatives to ensure effective skill transfer.
• Negotiate and coordinate repair and maintenance of aprons, runways, helipads, taxiways, hangars, UN air terminal buildings, fuel farms, lighting, drainage, bird control, fencing, fire services, air traffic control structures and navigation aids.
