Credit Officer - Salary Loans

About the role

The Credit Officer will manage salary‑loan products for Uwezo Microfinance, guiding applicants through the entire application process and ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Loan origination: market salary‑loan products, guide applicants, and collect required documentation such as payslips, employment contracts, and bank statements.
• Credit assessment: calculate debt‑to‑income ratios and verify employment details with employers or HR departments.
• Risk management: perform background checks, including Credit Reference Bureau screenings, to evaluate existing indebtedness and minimise defaults.
• Portfolio management: monitor active loans, track monthly repayments and proactively follow up with clients to prevent arrears.
• Reporting: prepare regular credit appraisal reports for branch management or the credit committee, ensuring all loans comply with statutory and organisational guidelines.

Required profile

• At least 12 months experience in credit assessment, loan origination or related banking functions.
• Strong understanding of salary‑loan products and debt‑to‑income analysis.
• Ability to verify employment information and conduct thorough background checks.
• Attention to detail and capability to produce accurate, compliant reports.
