Chief Accountant

About the role

The Chief Accountant will lead the accounting function in our Kampala office, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with Ugandan regulations and effective management of the company’s financial resources. This senior position requires strong analytical abilities, leadership and deep knowledge of local accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise all accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, fixed assets and revenue accounting.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with Ugandan Financial Reporting Standards (UFRS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) where applicable.
• Produce monthly group reporting packages for corporate office reporting.
• Ensure compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority requirements, including VAT, PAYE, withholding taxes and statutory contributions (NSSF, NHIF, etc.).
• Develop and maintain internal financial controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
• Coordinate and manage the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and variance analysis to support strategic decision‑making.
• Monitor cash flow, banking and investment activities to optimise financial performance.
• Provide leadership, guidance and training to the finance and accounting team.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices in accounting and finance.
• Advise management on financial planning, risk management and regulatory changes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA Uganda or ACCA certification preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Proficiency in accounting software.
• Excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills.
