Climate and Environment Team Leader

About the role

The Climate and Environment Team Leader will ensure technical quality and due‑diligence of all environment activities within the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI) across Yumbe, Moyo and Obongi districts. The role combines programme administration, technical oversight of forestry, land restoration and green‑livelihoods, and close support to community management structures.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day coordination, management and administration of URRI in the designated districts, ensuring alignment with donor requirements and local development plans.
• Supervise technical and support staff, manage relationships with implementing partners and local authorities.
• Lead environmental technical assessments, monitor quality and quantity of project materials, and guide forestry, land restoration and nature‑based solutions.
• Design, plan and implement environmental risk management, green‑livelihoods, soil and water conservation and other sustainable practices.
• Facilitate community trainings, sensitisation meetings and stakeholder dialogues, supporting Community Management Committees, Project Management Committees and Project User Committees.
• Represent the programme in coordination forums, donor meetings and stakeholder engagements, and contribute to reporting and budgeting processes.

Required profile

• Relevant higher education in environmental science, natural resources management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in managing climate‑resilience or environmental projects, preferably in humanitarian or refugee contexts.
• Strong knowledge of forestry, land restoration, green‑livelihoods and nature‑based solutions.
• Excellent coordination and supervisory skills, with ability to work with diverse partners and community groups.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
