Regional Technical Advisor – Education (PlayMatters)

About the role

The PlayMatters Technical Education Advisor will provide technical leadership for the adaptation, development, testing and improvement of teacher‑focused active learning content across Uganda, Ethiopia and South Sudan. Working within the International Rescue Committee’s PlayMatters phase‑3 education initiative, the advisor will help strengthen education systems to deliver quality, play‑based learning for children affected by conflict.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the review, analysis and adaptation of existing learning‑through‑play curricula and teaching materials.
• Develop new teacher‑focused content and testing protocols that align with PlayMatters objectives.
• Collaborate with global, regional and country‑based technical teams, partners and country leadership to ensure coordinated implementation.
• Provide technical support and capacity‑building to education teams in refugee‑hosting and post‑crisis zones.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of adapted materials and recommend improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in education technical advisory or curriculum development, preferably in humanitarian or crisis‑affected settings.
• Strong understanding of active teaching methods and learning‑through‑play approaches.
• Ability to work across multiple countries and coordinate with diverse stakeholder groups.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.
