Research and Development Director

About the role

Microhaem, Africa’s first 4th‑generation IVD manufacturing plant, is seeking an experienced Research and Development Director to lead the creation and lifecycle management of innovative medical devices. This senior position requires a systems‑thinking leader who can bridge software and hardware development while navigating a highly regulated startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all R&D projects, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission to improve patient lives.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify critical gaps in medical diagnostics and devise strategic solutions.
• Maintain compliance with industry standards, regulations, design controls, risk management, and verification & validation processes.
• Foster a culture of bold innovation, encouraging creative problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
• Communicate progress, challenges, and opportunities to stakeholders in line with corporate values.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of R&D experience in the medical or diagnostic laboratory sector.
• Proven track record of leading and managing high‑performing R&D teams.
• Strong project‑management capabilities and excellent interpersonal communication.
• Deep commitment to innovation, quality, and patient‑centric outcomes.
