Audit and Internal Control Manager - Tax and Audit

About the role

AGL, a multimodal logistics operator part of the MSC Group, is looking for an Audit and Internal Control Manager (Tax and Audit) based in Kampala, Uganda. This is a permanent, full-time position covering tax planning, compliance, tax reporting and audit oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Tax planning and compliance: develop tax strategies for logistics-specific factors such as freight, fuel and international shipping taxes, follow up tax queries and objections, and prepare and file corporate income tax, VAT, customs duties and payroll taxes on time.
• Respond to URA requests with supporting documents and advise senior management on tax law changes and their impact.
• Review tax-related financial statements and reports, and give management insight into the tax implications of business decisions.
• Design tax and audit policies and procedures, run risk assessments on customs duties, trade tariffs and fuel tax credits, and train staff on compliance.
• Work with Operations, Procurement and Legal on contracts and vendor agreements, and advise on tax incentives and credits, including for green energy and fleet modernization.
• Lead a team of tax and audit professionals, set performance goals and provide regular feedback.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA, CMA or an equivalent professional certification is preferred.
• Seven or more years of experience in tax management and auditing, ideally in logistics, transportation or supply chain.
• Knowledge of tax codes, audit standards and financial regulations, with a focus on multi-jurisdictional compliance.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent communication and leadership skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in financial systems such as SAP, Oracle or similar platforms.
• Multi-jurisdictional tax compliance.
