About the role
The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Manager in implementing the STRIDES project in Uganda. The role involves handling day‑to‑day accounting tasks, processing payments, and ensuring compliance with donor and local regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Process supplier/vendor payments, staff advances, reimbursements, consultant fees and mobile‑money transactions.
- Prepare and review payment vouchers, ensuring proper coding, authorization and donor compliance.
- Record all transactions in the GFAS accounting system and post journals and invoices promptly.
- Perform weekly bank and mobile‑money reconciliations and regular cash reconciliations.
- Maintain accounts payable, track outstanding balances and follow up on settlements.
- Prepare statutory reports such as VAT and Withholding Tax filings.
- Conduct monthly general‑ledger reconciliations and support end‑of‑month close.
- Assist with budgeting, monitoring and budget‑vs‑actual analysis for management and donors.
- Maintain organized financial documentation in line with audit requirements.
Required profile
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, budgeting and fiscal control principles.
- Familiarity with general office and administrative procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication, quantitative and analytical abilities.
- Critical thinking, problem‑solving and discretion with confidential information.
- Ability to work collaboratively and verify financial data accurately.
