General Manager (Logistics) – Kampala

About the role

A client, a dynamic logistics company with established operations in the Middle East and a growing footprint in East Africa, is recruiting a General Manager for its Kampala office. The GM leads and drives growth of the company's logistics and freight forwarding operations in Uganda, focusing on expanding market share, improving efficiency across air, ocean and land freight, and ensuring strong financial performance. The role also requires compliance with local regulations and alignment with regional and global logistics strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a country strategy to grow freight forwarding (air, ocean and road) and contract logistics, driving revenue, profitability and market expansion.
• Oversee full logistics operations including customs clearance, transportation, warehousing and last-mile delivery.
• Lead pricing strategies, tender management, contract negotiations and customer acquisition in import/export, project cargo and distribution.
• Build relationships with shipping lines, airlines, transporters, port authorities, customs agencies and key clients.
• Monitor P&L performance, manage costs and improve margins.
• Ensure adherence to Ugandan trade regulations and international freight standards, mitigate supply chain risks, and lead a leadership team through process improvement and digitalization.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field (MBA preferred).
• Minimum 10-15 years' experience in logistics and freight forwarding, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Proven track record in revenue growth, operational efficiency and business performance.
• Demonstrated experience in P&L management, cost control and commercial business development.

Required skills

• Strong expertise in international freight forwarding (air and ocean), customs clearance and East African trade corridors.
• Stakeholder management with established networks in ports, airlines and regulators.
• Strategic leadership, compliance and change management.
